CHINA TOUR 2016
The March 2016 University of Washington Wind Ensemble's 5th Asian tour was a fantastic success. Sold-out, standing room only crowds in major halls in Beijing and Shanghai for several side-by-side concerts with wonderful university ensembles including Tsinghua University, (the UW’s new global innovation partner), the China Conservatory and Shanghai Maritime University. Many new friendships were formed and despite the rigorous rehearsal/performance schedule, the students visited the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City and the Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower among other sightseeing attractions and activities.
Without the amazing assistance of UWWE alumna and China Conservatory Professor of Flute, Dr. Zhao-Rong Chen the tour would not have been possible. We are also particularly indebted to Jeffrey Riedinger, UW Vice Provost for Global Affairs; Ray Li, director of UW International Advancement; Dean Robert Stacey and Ma Hua of Shanghai Maritime University for their support.
